AI in Education:

Leveraging ChatGPT for Teaching Enroll for Free Starts Nov 29

Working alongside Ethan and Lilach Mollick, teachers at all levels will be empowered with the knowledge and skills to effectively incorporate AI into their classrooms. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent, understanding its capabilities, benefits, and potential pitfalls is crucial for modern educators.

This short course demystifies AI, focusing on tools like ChatGPT, and provides practical guidance on how to use these technologies to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

By the end of the course, you will be crafting effective AI prompts and designing AI-driven assignments that align with your educational goals, seamlessly incorporating AI into your teaching and making your classroom more efficient, innovative, and impactful.

You will be able to navigate common challenges, such as maintaining academic integrity and addressing ethical concerns. You will be able to harness AI’s potential, saving you time, helping you personalize learning, and increasing student engagement.

By way of introduction, I work in the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC). My colleagues in our Communications Division provided me with your contact details. The CCPC is currently conducting research into uniform, sportswear and device markets for primary and post-primary school children in Ireland. To support this research, we are requesting information from primary and post-primary schools about these areas. This information is being collected through an online questionnaire.  Over the last few days, the online questionnaire link has been issued to all post-primary schools through an email invite from a ccpc.ie address.

The questionnaire is presented in an easy to follow format and should take between 15-20 minutes to complete if all three markets are covered. The person(s) completing the questionnaire should have knowledge of these areas as they relate to the school. Schools’ responses to the questionnaire will be combined with the responses from other schools to form an overall picture of the uniform, sportswear and device markets for schools in Ireland. No responses will be reported on at an individual level.

The deadline for responses from schools is 5pm on Friday, 29th November 2024.

We are happy to discuss further if this is something you can assist with.

Many thanks

Sara

ESRI SURVEY

Following a recent review of all second level schools in the country with a student population of over 1,000 (now 51 schools as of July 2024), a concerning trend has emerged: very few Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs) are current for this academic year (AY24/25), with many still dating from pre-2020. These policies largely lack reference to recent technological advancements, particularly in relation to AI, which is absent from all AUPs reviewed.

This brief survey aims to capture the challenges schools face in updating AUPs to reflect today’s digital environment and identify the type of support that would be most useful. The findings will be invaluable to both school managers and the Department of Education, offering key insights that can help shape future policy and practice. Your participation  in this survey would be essential in ensuring the concerns of school leaders are addressed effectively.

The survey is quite brief and should not take more than 5 minutes. Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeJlK9IrVrEDP3SdSYvSMEGhp2ad4LtVBRe31xy42aXdM8M-A/viewform?usp=sf_link
